Practicing the Faith: Tools For Your Journey

This month I've worked with a delightful, playful story found in the
Bible in the book of Numbers. Our Christian faith, like the Jewish
faith from which we came, is shaped around stories. Stories are the
containers that carry eternal truths. They are spacious enough for
varied levels of meaning, varied interpretations. Here are some
things for you to ponder:
What are the foundational stories of our faith? Of your faith?
What faith stories do you know?
Let go of the fruitless discussion about whether they happened or
not. Instead, can you find the wisdom or the truth hidden in the story?
Pick one biblical story that you remember. What wisdom does it offer
you for your life and struggles?

These may be easy questions for some folks, but many in our culture
have lost the capacity to see deeper than the story line and to
understand the story's meaning for their own life.
Being able to do that makes the Bible come alive, and suddenly be
worth your time!
